In a tragic incident, terrorists opened fire on a non-local identified as Amritpal Singh, a resident of Amritsar, at Shaheed Gunj Srinagar. Singh succumbed to his injuries, while another individual, Rohit, also from Amritsar, sustained severe gunshot wounds to the abdomen and is currently receiving medical treatment at SMHS hospital. The assailants, armed with an AK rifle, fired at point-blank range, according to unidentified officials. The area has been cordoned off as authorities investigate further.
Both the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party have strongly condemned the attack, expressing shock and offering condolences to Singh’s family. They emphasized that such acts of violence have no place in society and hinder the progress and peace the region strives for.
This marks the first attack on a non-local in Kashmir this year, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. Last year witnessed several similar attacks on non-local workers in different parts of the valley, including Anantnag and Shopian districts. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
